Underbroen is a partner in SISCODE - an ambitious EU project running from 2018 through 2021 aimed at exploring co-creation and -design as tools for including citizens and users in decision-making processes with policy makers
SISCODE (Co-Design for Society in Innovation and Science) is a project under the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme that has received a grant of approx. DKK 30 million to examine and experiment with political co-creation in Europe. The overarching aim of SISCODE is to better understand co-creation as a bottom-up and design-driven phenomenon that is flourishing in Europe (in fab labs, living labs, social innovations, smart cities, communities and regions), to analyse favorable conditions that support its scalability and replication and to use this knowledge to cross-fertilize RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation) practices and policies.
The motivation for the project is that while there is no shortage of good intentions or statements about the need to include citizens and users in political decision-making processes, in fact, it happens far too rarely and often only as a sort of initial consultation. The project is therefore focused on policy development within STI (Science, Technology and Innovation) and based on a combination of case studies and co-creation experiments. The case studies will examine existing co-creation ecosystems in Europe, while the experiments, which involve ten fab labs, living labs and science centres across Europe, actively engage citizens, policy makers and other stakeholders in testing new solutions in trials involving civil society, companies and public sector actors.
SISCODE runs from 2018 through 2021, and the final conference is held in Copenhagen. Maker and Underbroen will contribute to SISCODE as a co-creation lab partner and will involve local citizens, stakeholder and policy makers in hands-on experimentation through a co-creation journey in Copenhagen starting February 2019 through 2020.
